Recap of the Weekend. Part 2.

Sunday was my darlings birthday! Had to put my thinking cap on to think of something fun and creative to do. He didn't want to have people over, no horseback riding, no sun to go to the beach, so we decided to make our very own sushi!!!

We had a full day before the sushi, filled with skyping with family, church and a meeting. All in all he said he had a fabulous day!! There was even birthday cake even though it was just the two of us.

The sushi came out very scrumptious, and turned out to not be a too difficult process. Now that we are pros we will tackle it again someday. He gives his thanks for all the birthday wishes.

Recap of the Weekend. Part 1.

September has not slowed down. I bought my first bag of Halloween candy last Friday!! :) We are just racing through the weeks, as usual, and the weekends never seem long enough. We always manage to squeeze in a little fun on our weekends though.

This Saturday, we had the Air Force Ball. It was the Air Force's 63rd Birthday (don't quote me on that) on September 18th and every 2 years Lajes puts on an Air Force Ball. Brandon was kinda voluntold that we were going but it turned out to be a great time.

It wasn't a normal ball like you would think. There was social hour, then dinner, and then a guest speaker. No dancing, can you believe it? Oh well. It was fun to dress up. Some of the girls here who have been in the Air Force for years, literally, like they are about to retire soon have, have never even been to an Air Force Ball before this. So it was neat to have attended and seen what it was about so early into our Air Force experience.

Of course, we were party poopers and didn't stay for the "after-party" where the dancing took place.

Here are the few pictures I did take. Sorry they are not more exciting, but for privacy issues I will keep group pictures off the blog.

Germany.

We are back. We returned Saturday evening after a full day of traveling. We were so happy to see Mas-face again and know he was okay during the week.

We had an amazing time!!! We loved Germany, it was so beautiful, so green, so different then are little island. It made us seriously reconsider staying overseas for the travel benefits, but that is for a different post. :)
Enjoy the pictures.

One-Quarter Marker.

We arrived on our island officially 6 months ago, today. That makes 1/4 of our tour here done! Not that were waiting to leave or anything, but 6 months is a significant amount of time. We can finally stop telling people that we are "new" to the island. Although then that makes for the other problem, that people think we know what we are talking about. :)

We can definitely say we have been and seen all around our island.
*These list our mainly for my memory and keepsake*

  • Wine Musuem
  • Praia Fest
  • Angra Fest
  • eaten at numerous restaurants
  • bullfights
  • Angra gardens
  • Cheese Factory
  • both caves
  • Duck lake
  • Monte Brazil
  • Serra do Cume
  • golfing
  • Suphur Pits

However, our island offers some thing that are still on our list of things to do, such as:

  • 45 minute hop to Sao Miguel (the biggest island)
  • Deep-sea fishing
  • numerous more restaurants to eat at
  • Carnaval (in Feb.)
  • I have yet to go up to Santa Barbara (the highest point), B has
  • Horseback riding
  • swim in the swimming holes
  • apparently you can swim with dolphins here
  • Wine Festival
I am sure I am missing and forgetting many things from both list.

It has been quite an adventure these first 6 months, and we are ready for more!!

Back on.

I am hesitant to write this, in fear that plans will change yet again.

We are back on for our Germany trip. B received a call yesterday, not really explaining in much detail, that the trip is back on. That leads to a fun-filled day of phone calls and confirming arrangements once again.

We are glad we never got around to canceling our ticket we had purchased. :)
